Green Cleaning

The Connecticut Departments of Public Health (CT DPH) and Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) worked together to produce the following video.  The main purpose of the video is to assist school staff and parents to comply with the 2009 CT School Green Cleaning Products law (Conn. Gen. Stat. Sections 10-220 [a], 10-231g) which clearly states “No parent, guardian, teacher or staff member may bring into the school facility any consumer product which is intended to clean, deodorize, sanitize or disinfect.”   A survey of CT school facilities directors found that almost 90% reported finding non-green cleaners like bleach in the classroom and about 70% find them in other areas of the school.  All teachers and other staff should have access to the general green cleaner used by the custodial staff.    Reducing exposure to traditional cleaners is part of efforts to reduce asthma triggers in schools.
