2019-2020 School Year
2019 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
All students at Colebrook School participate in the summer reading program.
Students entering grades 1 & 2 will read 60 short picture books. For emerging readers, if an adult needs to do some of the reading with the child, that is absolutely fine. If a student in first grade is reading chapter books, it is perfectly acceptable to count the chapter book as several of the short picture books. Use your judgement when completing the orange log.
Students entering grades 3-6 read 3 chapter books. Students have committed to specific chapter books. The intent is to ensure that students are reading books that are appropriate for their ability. You are welcome to help them select an alternate book if necessary. Students will then need to write up a one paragraph summary about each book that they have read.
Students need to complete their orange reading log over the summer and bring the completed form, and summaries if appropriate, to school on the first day of school next year to receive a special incentive. This year the incentive for students is a digital timer. This incentive is provided by the P.T.O.
The returned forms are also used to calculate the information for the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge. There is no need to complete a separate form.
