Colebrook Consolidated School

Mrs. Ellison's Sixth Grade

                                   Science

Notetaking also plays an important role in the science program.  Throughout the year students will be involved in many hands-on activities where they will follow the scientific method in order to conduct and complete lab procedures.  Lab reports are written for most experiments and turned in for a grade.  Topics of study this year will include the properties of matter and how the structure of matter affects the properties and uses of various materials. We will focus on how internal and external sources of energy affect the Earth's systems, such as seasonal weather conditions, air pressure, and water content of the atmosphere.  We will also study ecology and ecosystems.  Our focus will examine how matter and energy flow through various ecosystems.  Our ecology studies will lead us into an in depth look of biomes and numerous lessons preparing the students for their springtime trip to Cape Cod.
