HOMEWORK: Homework should typically take about 30 minutes to complete. Every child needs help from mom and dad on occasion, but please let me know
if your child is having a great deal of difficulty or if it continually takes more than 30 minutes to complete an assignment. This "30 minutes" does not include the things that should be done
everyday such as reviewing the week's spelling words, math facts or reading for pleasure.
.
WAYS TO HELP:
- At the store, have your child estimate costs and count change.
- Make flash cards to review addition and subtraction facts.
- Read to your child as well as having your child read to you. Kids of all ages enjoy being read to—don't ever stop!
- Discuss stories as you read them. Talk about "what might happen next" or how a story might have turned out differently.
- Begin making your child responsible for things such as having his/her backpack packed and ready to go for the next day before they go to bed each night, knowing what they are taking each day for snack or
lunch or knowing where they are going after school that day.
- Build your child's confidence everyday. Let them know that they are special. Be sure to point out all the things they really do well and encourage them constantly.
