Dear Parents,

We read some really great books this week.  We read the second story to The Three Billy Goats Gruff called the Three Silly Girls Grubb.  The students loved this story.  We used a Venn Diagram to compare the two stories.  We also did this with Jack and the Beanstalk and Jim and the Beanstalk.  Jim and the Beanstalk could be a sequel because the giant is the son of the giant in the other story.

Our last Mathematics unit for the year is called Exploring Numbers 0-20.  We solved a problem with large and small cars to see how many you would need and which type you need more of.  We used our discussion book to discuss the arrangement of fruit, predicted which one was more and which one was less, counted each fruit and then checked our predictions.

We had field day on Thursday.  The students had a blast!  They were able to do many activities including tug o war, parachute, wet sponge toss, human slingshot and relays.

We will be finishing our unit on Poetry soon.  The students will be making a book that included an anything poem, color poem, their name, a poem from a picture that they used their senses to describe and an acrostic poem (the word like dog is spelled out with the first line starting with d, the second line with o and the third line with g).  They will make a cover so we can make it into a book for them to keep.

I am sending home a letter with the DRA level your child passed.   I will send this information to Mrs. Canfield as well.

We have a lot of papers and projects to finish up for the end of the year.   Please make sure they clean their folders out so they will have room for their stuff.  We try to break it up so there isn't too much on one day.  Our last day for take home books will be next Wednesday.  Please make sure they are returned.

For the last homework (Due Tuesday), please have your child complete the attached activity sheet.  They need to write their name, count the fish and then write the correct number.  I will be handing out homework prizes at the end of the year.

From,

Ms. Crunden
