Our science program for fifth grade will be based on scientific inquiry, scientific literacy, and scientific
numeracy. Scientific inquiry is a thoughtful and coordinated attempt to search out, describe, explain and predict natural phenomena. Scientific literacy includes speaking, listening, presenting, interpreting, reading and
writing about science. Scientific numeracy is using mathematics as a useful tool for description, analysis and presentation of scientific data and ideas.
The units fifth graders will study are as follows:
Sound and Light as forms of Energy
How we perceive and respond to information about the environment is critical to the survival of the organism.
The Earth, moon and stars
Humans have the
capacity to build and use tools to advance the quality of their lives.
