Welcome to Colebrook Consolidated
School. Colebrook is a small rural community with a big sense of pride
in our school. A staff consisting of 32 full and part-time employees
implements high quality educational programs for 120 students enrolled in
kindergarten through grade six. . At Colebrook Consolidated School we challenge
our students with a comprehensive curriculum that provides them with the
skills necessary to achieve. We use a variety of assessment tools to
assist us in focusing instruction and utilizing available resources.
Students in grades three through six take the Connecticut Mastery Test every
March. Generally the percentage of students performing at goal or above
goal on the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) exceeds the state
average. For students who do not achieve the established goals,
extra support is available both in and out of the classroom. The strong commitment to work together by the
Board of Education, the town and Colebrook parents brought our kindergarten
program from an extended day to a full-day program in September,
2008. Our youngest students are able to further excel in all
academic subjects and develop socially at a more relaxed pace and at a deeper
level of experience than before. Technology education and up-to-date learning
tools are priorities at CCS. We have two mobile labs that contain a total of
30 laptop computers. These mobile labs are brought into
classrooms for whole class instruction and also are available for staff
professional development. Students use the computers for research, word
processing, and creating projects to represent their learning. Two
mobile SMARTBoards have also been purchased to assist in instruction and
learning. This technology is being utilized at all grade levels. Colebrook students and staff are
T.e.R.R.i.F.i.C.C. We practice the character traits of trustworthiness,
responsibility, respect, faithfulness, caring,
and citizenship. Students are recognized for demonstrating good
character as part of the morning announcements. Opportunities to practice
these traits are provided through the recycling program, duties raising the
flag, serving lunch, making announcements, assisting with younger students,
and in all facets of our school day. Parents are important members of the
Home-School Partnership. We celebrate First Day each year with a
coffee, a school-wide assembly and then offer time for parents and community
members to visit classrooms. Volunteer opportunities exist in the art
room and library. Each classroom is encouraged to provide parents with
an opportunity to visit the classroom to engage in a project with their child
or to view students showcasing their learning at the end of a project.
We work very closely with our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to provide
curriculum and cultural enrichment for our students. PTO support makes
it possible to bring musical performances to our school and for teachers to
purchase equipment needed to enhance instruction. A large, handicap
accessible playground was built for student use through a comparative effort
between the PTO and the Town of Colebrook. A hundred volunteers worked
tirelessly to build the play-scape over two days. It was an incredible
sight and an example of the value placed on children and community in
Colebrook. We highly value effective communication at CCS so please feel free to contact me by phone (860-379-2179)or email (bdriscoll@colebrookschool.org) if I can be of any further assistance. Colebrook Consolidated School is a great learning community, and we invite you to come be a part of it.
