Rainbow Connection

Rainbow Connection December 9, 2011     This has been an unusual week, due to my eye surgery, late opening on Thursday, and early closings on Thursday and Friday, but we still managed to cover a lot of territory.
Since we are working on letter writing this month, I thought it was a perfect opportunity for the children to write a letter to Santa.  These are on a much higher level than the usual "gimme, gimme, gimme' letter of former years.  You will be entertained by their new style.  Next week, we will be working on thank you letters, so all the grandma, grandpas and aunts and uncles will be thrilled that your child knows how to write a letter with pizzazz.
In reading, we have been focusing on non-fiction books.  We wrote captions for photos, and studied the index.  Next week we will be visiting other features, such as Table of Contents, diagrams, instructions.
We are approaching working with hundreds, working with manipulatives and regrouping.  The process is slow, but steady.
I hope you enjoyed all the quiet students sitting at their desks during conferences.  Thank you for coming in.
