Farewell Mr. Chittum

Farewell Superintendent Chittum

It is with mixed emotions that I am informing you of my retirement as superintendent of the Colebrook School District.  The Colebrook Board of Education has accepted my resignation effective at the end of the 2015-2016 school year.

My nine years as superintendent of Colebrook School District have been the most professionally satisfying and personally rewarding of my long career in education. During my tenure, parents and the community have been extremely supportive of our school. Our students, under the guidance of their teachers and the support of their parents, have worked hard and demonstrated great performance. Colebrook is a special place where staff and parents work together to enable Colebrook students to achieve the skills and abilities that will enable them to be successful at Region 7 Middle/High School and beyond.

My personal contact with your children has been the highlight of my time at Colebrook Consolidated School. I will fondly remember the greetings and smiles I receive as the students enter school, walk the halls, converse in the lunchroom and play on the equipment at recess. Their effort and enthusiasm is always the high point of my day. Although I will leave at the end of June, I know that those special memories will linger.

The Board of Education has completed its search and has elected my replacement. It is my pleasure to introduce Dr. Dani Thibodeau who will assume leadership for the district beginning in July. Dr. Thibodeau is joining our school community after fifteen successful years as Executive Director of Education Connection, which is a regional education service center serving 30

school districts in Western Connecticut. As executive director, she is keenly aware of the challenges that face small, rural school districts in Western Connecticut.  Before that, Dr. Thibodeau’s career included time as an assistant superintendent and middle school principal. The Board of Education and I have every confidence that Dr. Thibodeau will provide the leadership and guidance to increase the quality of our school district.

Although I will be leaving to spend more time with my children and grandchildren, and even play a few rounds of golf, the memories of Colebrook Consolidated School, its students, staff and parents will continue to be with me. I will always remember the support you have given me and the support you have given our school.
